FTW is a nonprofit organization established in 2018. It is committed to providing free Data Science and Technology training for women in the Philippines.
“FTW’s mission and vision has been unchanged throughout the years. Our vision is to create a community of Filipinos in tech that are empowered to break through career barriers. Our mission is to change women’s lives through intensive tech skills sharing to enable upward career mobility,” said FTW Co-Founder and Executive Director Cara Wilson.
In partnership with various agencies including digital commerce platform Lazada Foundation, the dynamic learning community offered 14 Saturdays of in-depth Data Science training and mentored 30 scholars. To showcase the fruit of this training, the scholars, prior to the certificate awarding, presented their business recommendations and tackled problems of different industries ranging from finance, infrastructure development, e-commerce, and other services.
The 30 scholars were assigned into five different groups. The first group presented their study on power service reliability titled An Analysis of U.S. Power Outages Between 2008 and 2020. This was followed by another group focusing on virtual shopping – this study was titled The Paradox of Choice in the Skincare Online Shopping Experience.
The third team presented their study on the Land Registration Systems Inc. (LARES) and how it can be improved. This was followed by the fourth team with their presentation called Early Churn Prediction for a Consumer Finance Mobile Application, while the last one was called Best-kept Secret: Understanding the Best Customers of a Lending Company.
Apart from the presentation of studies, the scholars were also awarded with certificates. This commencement activity was held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. To date, the number of scholars who have graduated from FTW’s Data Science and Technology training is at 130.
